About Grayscale Image
Remove all color from an image, producing a classic black-and-white photograph. Adjust intensity from subtle desaturation to full grayscale. All processing happens in your browser — images never leave your device.
How It Works
This tool uses the browser's native Canvas CSS filter to apply a grayscale conversion. The image is drawn onto a canvas with the grayscale() filter at your chosen intensity, then re-encoded as JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
Step by Step
- 1 Upload a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image
- 2 Adjust the intensity slider (0% = no change, 100% = full grayscale)
- 3 Click Convert to apply the grayscale effect
- 4 Download your black-and-white image
Tips
- 100% intensity removes all color for a true black-and-white result.
- Try 40-60% for a subtle desaturated look popular in modern photography.
- Grayscale images often compress better as JPEG due to fewer color channels.
- Pair with the Adjust tool to increase contrast after converting to grayscale.
