WMV (Windows Media Video)
WMV là định dạng video của Microsoft cho hệ sinh thái Windows. Nó từng phổ biến cho phát trực tuyến Windows nhưng đã giảm sử dụng khi MP4 và H.264 trở thành tiêu chuẩn.

Khi nào nên dùng .WMV
Tránh tạo WMV mới — sử dụng MP4 với H.264/H.265 thay thế. Chuyển đổi WMV hiện có sang MP4 cho tương thích đa nền tảng.
Chi tiết kỹ thuật
WMV sử dụng codec VC-1 (WMV 9) hoặc WMV 7/8 cũ hơn, được lưu trong container ASF (Advanced Systems Format). Hỗ trợ DRM (Windows Media DRM), phát trực tuyến và tốc độ bit thích ứng.
Lịch sử
Microsoft phát triển WMV năm 1999. WMV 9 (2003) đủ tốt để trở thành tiêu chuẩn SMPTE VC-1 dùng trong Blu-ray. Silverlight và Windows Media Player dựa nhiều vào WMV.
